What is the Illinois wager tax?
The Illinois wager tax is a tax on sportsbook operators for each sports wager placed over the Internet or through a mobile application.
Why am I seeing a $0.25 or $0.50 Pass through of Illinois Per Wager Tax on my bet slip?
Beginning September 1, 2025, DraftKings will pass the Illinois wager tax through to certain customers and/or on certain sports bets placed in the state of Illinois.
How much is the pass-through tax?
The pass-through tax on certain wagers will begin at $0.25 and will increase to $0.50 for certain wagers in excess of 20 million annual combined wagers placed on DraftKings’ online sportsbook in Illinois.
Does the pass-through tax apply to pushed bets?
Yes, the pass-through tax will not be returned if the bet is graded as a push.

Will DraftKings require a minimum stake for bets placed in Illinois?
In accordance with the updated DraftKings Sportsbook House Rules in Illinois, the minimum stake for a bet is the greater of $0.10 and the amount required to result in winnings that will exceed any pass through of the Illinois online/mobile per sports wager tax applied to the bet (i.e., for any bet that is subject to the pass through of the Illinois online/mobile per sports wager tax, the winnings plus stake must be at least $0.26 for the first 20 million annual combined wagers placed on DraftKings’ Online Sportsbook in Illinois, and $0.51 thereafter.)
How will I know if I am being charged a pass-through tax?
The pass-through of the Illinois online/mobile per sports wager tax will be displayed on your bet slip under the label “Pass through of Illinois Per Wager Tax” before you place your wager. It will also show up in your transaction history after the bet is placed.
What happens if my bet is canceled or voided?
If your bet is canceled or voided, the pass-through tax will be refunded automatically to your account.
